Eudora Welty is an incredible Southerner I draw inspiration from. Revered for both her writing and photography, Welty used her craft to eloquently reflect the unique experience of being a human in the American South.
Curiosity about people was at the heart of her work. She was constantly striving to accurately depict the lives of those she observed.
She set her focus on the people in front of her and used her instrument to tell their stories—many, whose stories previously hadn’t been valued—through images that captured life as it was with poignant emotion and empathy.
At Sharpe Fox Photo, my approach is similar.
