I believe every person has an incredible story to tell, and photography is the perfect medium for doing just that.
My first camera was a disposable Kodak given to me when I was 5. I don’t have the prints from that first roll of film, but the chance to photograph what was interesting to me stoked a curious need to document that persists to this day.
That thrill I felt as a child has translated into a career based on the ultimate privilege of connecting with people and documenting their lives.
I earned a degree in photojournalism at UNC-Chapel Hill and honed my craft as an award-winning photo and multimedia journalist producing documentary stories for a community newspaper.
I thought that’s what I would do for the rest of my career, but life—moves, milestones, an ever-shifting media landscape—revealed other plans.
More recently, I’ve used my work to advocate for equal access to justice with a local nonprofit, telling stories of empowerment using photography and video.
Regardless of what I am doing with photography, I am honored to share my work with the individuals, families and communities I work with, knowing just how much their images mean to them.
For some, it’s the only chance to have photographs taken of their family; it eases the loss of a loved one or celebrates emergence from hardship. For others, it marks an incredible milestone, but often, it’s just a beautiful slice of life that someone wants to remember forever.
At the heart of my work is the call to reflect life as it is—often messy, difficult and complicated, yes, but also persistently beautiful and bewilderingly miraculous.
Each image captures a fleeting moment from a unique season in life—moments we later look back on with nostalgic pulls to return or wondrous awe at just how far we have come since that shutter clicked.
“Life reflected” isn’t just my tag line; it’s my mission. I’m here to capture authentic moments of you, your loved ones, your life as it is in all its glory—whatever that means for you.
I promise you, there is magic in the ordinary, and it deserves to be captured.
