Dear Mom,
This post is for you.
You know that motherhood is a series of fleeting moments. But here’s something that may come as a surprise:
I’m here to tell you that you do deserve nice photos of your family that include YOU.
I think some of the best family photographs come from candid shots captured when trying to be a fly on the wall observing what’s going on.
But when that fly is Mommy, forget about getting that beautiful shot of your kids that was there before you pulled out the camera.
Instead, the moment is gone and suddenly the idea of chasing that fly with the camera sounds way more fun to your kiddos.
They start making faces. They start running around. The whole moment devolves into chaos, leaving you frustrated because you just wanted to capture this precious moment that perfectly illustrates this time in your life.
You just wanted ONE nice picture! Is that too much to ask?
Nope.
I’m sure plenty of parenting gurus would listen to this scenario and advise: “just smile, laugh it off, and be present!”
Sure. Being present is so important and increasingly difficult in our distracting digital age.
But I also think you can have (and deserve) both.
You should get to be present as a parent AND have that special moment captured.
Every family’s dynamic is different. But often, moms assume the role of family photographer on top of everything else they do to support and nurture their families.
This means they are often the ones behind the camera, documenting their children doing all the adorable things they do, leaving few photos including mom that aren’t selfies.
Mom, you deserve better.
You deserve nice family photos that reflect these fleeting moments in your life.
That’s where I come in. Let me document these moments while you are present with your family.
When your kids are older, the images they will treasure most likely will not be the thousands of them you have on your phone—though I’m sure they are all adorable!
They will be images that feature YOU and reflect your life together.
Those will be the special images you and your children will turn to when you want to remember this season of life.
They’re special because these shared moments are yours and YOU are a part of them.
❤️

P.S. Dads and partners reading this, consider this your reminder to LOOK for these moments and take the picture every once in a while. My bet is your wife/partner has done this for you on more than one occasion. Let’s return the favor.
