Happy Mother's Day.
We all have a relationship to motherhood in some way, even if it’s just by being born.
And that relationship with the word “mom” encompasses so much based on who you’re asking.
For some, it is an unwavering source of love, comfort and support and the constant giving of oneself that comes with it.
For others, it can be absence, from a strained or non-existent relationship.
It could be the desire to become a mom and encountering difficulty at every turn.
It could be the overwhelm of motherhood’s pressures or the struggle to reconcile one’s new identity as a parent with life before children.
And for some, it is bereavement: the gulf of grief that comes from missing a mother who has passed on or the indescribable pain of losing a child.
With all the photos of brunches, flowers, tributes and sweet pics of moms and kiddos filling our feeds today, we recognize the broad nuances of motherhood and our complex relationships to it.
I hope that wherever you fall on the spectrum of “mom,” you feel seen, appreciated and loved.
We celebrate moms and all the selfless ways they sacrifice for those they love.
We celebrate the transformative impact “mom” has on all our lives.
